#WHEN WILL CHANGE COME?
The cost of domestic violence goes far beyond bruises.
Black women who are battered are at greater risk for the following than their counterparts who aren't abused: Physical ailments, mental health issues, suicide, lowered likelihood of practicing safe sex and greater likelihood of substance abuse during pregnancy.
In addition, the cost of direct medical and mental health services linked to domestic violence is $4.1 billion a year, according to NCADV.
3 new domestic violence laws added to Maryland books October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown marked the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month by highlighting the laws. Brown, who leads the administration's initiatives to reduce domestic violence, spearheaded efforts to pass the three-bill domestic violence package during the 2014 Legislative Session.
"Domestic violence does not discriminate. Its impact is felt in every community regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic status, or gender," Brown said. "This month we come together to raise awareness of this senseless crime and recommit ourselves to the effort to eliminate it. These new laws are an important part of our continued progress to protect women and children from domestic violence, but our work is not complete until every Marylander is free from fear in their home or in their community."
Maryland was the only state that requires victims to meet a higher standard of "clear and convincing evidence" in order to obtain a peace or protective order. The new laws now reduce that standard to a "preponderance of the evidence."
Of the nearly 5,300 final peace or protective orders that were denied last year alone, 3,500 of those were because the victim could not meet the standard of "clear and convincing evidence." This important change, which takes effect Wednesday, will ensure more victims of domestic violence have access to the protections they need, officials said.

Pistorius case highlights South Africa’s high rate of domestic violence
http://www.cctv-america.com/2014/09/13/pistorius-case-highlights-south-africas-high-domestic-violence

September 13, 2014
The Oscar Pistorius trial has garnered worldwide attention. But it has also highlighted South Africa’s high level of domestic violence. Research shows more than 1,000 South Africa women are killed by their partners every year.
Pistorius maintains he mistook his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp for an intruder. But the narrative of intimate partner homicide makes for awkward discussion and uneasy introspection for South Africa.
On average, three women are killed by the hands of the their boyfriends and husbands each day. That means that in the 41 days of the Pistorius trial, roughly 123 women were killed by their partners

My visit to the (Men Hurt Too) event
A few weeks ago, June 7th 2014 to be precise. I and a sister of mine got the opportunity to attend DVWMT gathering "Men Hurt Too" breakfast, with host @Queen Afi. From the title of the program, I will admit, it sounded some what comical to me. Truth was, I and the rest of society's perception about men were very similar. (Men don't cry, they show no emotion, and the last thing I thought was men being abused!!!
Well when your told knowledge is power... Believe it. I learned so much during the program. I got to hear REAL MEN shamelessly tell their tales of being personally abused (domestically) by their intimate partner. Some of these men were the victims, some were the abusers and other witness abusers and as a result became an abuser. After listening to these brave men talk about their relationship issues, you really see that women can be severe abusers in relationships as well. What I also admired was the personal stories of Queen Afi and her mother as they admitted to being ex-abusers to their partners. These women we're completely transparent and kept it all the way.
Things I learned
1. Abuse is triggered by both parties (not just the abuser but the victim as well.
So women our words can very deadly. Scripture says "life and death lyes I the power of your tongue". And when we are upset we know just what to say to push that LAST button watch it
2. Children will mostly likely pick up from witnessing a case of violence between their parents. And they in turn can either become VICTIMS OR the ABUSER!
3. THE ONLY WAY TO END DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS TO EDUCATE BOTH THE VICTIM AND THE ABUSER

Love Selflessly and JustStand
Sad, but it's the truth!
Most people don't care or take it to heart when they hear stories of girls who have been taken advantage of. You won't feel half the hurt the victim feels, you won't cry half the tears she cries or have half the suicidal thoughts she has!
But quick question...
What if Your New born DAUGHTER WAS RAPE?
Your NEWLY WEDDED WIFE whom you haven't felt her warmth?
Better still your MOTHER?
Your infant SON?
Or your NIECE who you love as your own??
Please take a moment and think about that.
Is reality sinking in??
it's time society stop being so selfish, and eliminate the idea of "if it's not me or someone I love, I don't care that much".
God commands us to love each other and be selfless--/--- JOHN 13:34
So today I urge my readers to love selflessly as God commands us to and together we can all JUST STAND!
Just Stand because "You are Not Alone"
GOD... TOUCH... SMELL... HUGS.... CUDDLE.... EMBRACE... LOVE .... COMPASSION
All these words are medicinal and can play a huge role in bringing healing to a hurt soul. Doctors can prescribe drugs , therapy, rehab..etc but I've come to find healing in theses word. Words that became verbs and shared with me by my sisters. There is power in sisterhood and love that's truly unexplainable. God is placed at the top because it's faith that keeps one going in time of pain and anguish. JUST STAND creates a atmosphere of sisterhood where a victim can feel apart of an unbreakable bond. A place where u can relate to others and cry the same tears as your sisters. So we say to all victims and survivors of sexual and domestic violence... "You are Not Alone".
-God is love
Don't Sit anymore.... JUST STAND!
It's evident that sexual crimes against children WILL NOT STOP until someone makes a brave and conscious decision to JUST STAND! So I urge all to take a Stand with me as we reduces cases of child abuse in our communities.
Sexual Violence = Silence..... NOT ANYMORE!!!
Sexual violence = Silence
We'll not anymore! For so long society's greatest secret has been hidden and tucked under years and centries or helpless cries. These women have been ostracize from society, their communities, even their families. The forbidden talk of sexual violence will be exploited and all ignorance of it will be shattered if it's the last thing I do. I absolutely love this image. It's speaks for itself. It's so sad to know how many victims fear speaking up and out about their personal stories because of what their perpetrators might do to them. It's a real fear like any other that I used to know very well. Because I was that girl! It's took a long time coming... And I still have a long way to go... Still I give God the glory for seeing me THROUGH IT ALL.
